MY FEARLESS SONG
ELMARIE DE VOS
A NOTE FROM LAUREN
Whenever I think of Elmarie, I smile. She is beautiful. She has a pure heart before God and is authentic in her pursuit of Him. We play netball together. She loves children and sings like an angel. While Elmarie was going through a time of doubt, fear and anxiety, we had many conversations. I soon realised that no person would be able to deliver her from what she was facing. She needed an encounter with God, a peek into a certain part of His heart, and we had to simply pray for this to happen.
With Elmarie I realised you can’t always fix someone’s problem; you can’t control what they are feeling. Often the best thing you can do is to come alongside them in love and unconditional acceptance when they feel like they are drowning. I think I failed at this to an extent, but I certainly learnt a lot. Her story is a beautiful example of how God redeems that which was stolen from us – in her case, childlike faith. She is twenty-seven, works for Deloitte and lives down the road from me in Rivonia.
A NOTE FROM LENKA
This illustration is a response to an invitation from God to “come”. Wholehearted surrender and unreserved trust in God secures us in His hand that will never leave us, nor forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6)
Elmarie’s story brings this illustrated girl’s Truth to life as she testifies of a Father’s loving embrace that casts out all fear. The illustrated girl, myself, and Elmarie all testify of the same thing; we are securely found only in a state surrender.
